Why Mirror242?

Everyone looks in a mirror in the morning.  The mirror reflects your outward appearance.  Have you ever stopped to wonder what your life reflects?  By striving to Mirror Acts 2:42, it reminds us of what we want to reflect in our lives and as we gather together.  It’s the stuff that you might miss in your look at the morning mirror. The book of Acts tells us all about the early church.  In chapter two it describes the first meetings the people who were committed to following Jesus as their Lord (they wanted to pattern their lives after his teachings) looked like when they gathered together.  It tells us they were devoted to doing 4 things, “To the apostles’ teaching, fellowship (meeting altogether), and to breaking bread and to prayer” Acts 2:42. Notice first it tells they believed that the apostles’ (Jesus’ 11 friends that followed him everywhere) could help them understand all that Jesus taught and help them learn how he lived and what Gods priorities for life are.  The core of their message was that Jesus was the promised one who came to die for our sins and show us how to reconnect our lives to the Living God.  They were also devoted to meeting together. Essential to life was gathering together and sharing your life, your joys and hardships with others who have the same core values that you do. We strive to be that place for anyone who shows up. Breaking of bread was not just eating together (and they did eat together), but to remember the last meal that Jesus ate and what he taught during that meal: Luke 22:19-20 “and he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.’ 19 in the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.’ 20” We are also devoted to prayer. Not just when we gather together but remembering each other throughout the week. Prayer is one of the simplest things we as Christians can do for one another and we love to pray for our friends. The passage goes on to say that they shared everything they had.  That’s the kind of community we want to emulate and celebrate! So next time you are standing in front of your morning mirror, ask your self “What does my life reflect?”, then ask yourself “What should my life reflect?”
